Law Society Sports

This is the ninth year that we have been running Law Society Sports, and our teams continue to practice weekly, offering our members another fun dimension to our society. We encourage students of all abilities to take part in our weekly sessions, which remain a sociable and relaxed environment.

What We’ve Done

2022 proved to be an even busier year for our sports teams, as we competed in friendly netball and football matches with other university societies. These matches were a success as we effectively used sport as an icebreaker to meet other like-minded students and took the opportunity to make connections which we hope to continue this year.

We ran weekly netball and football sessions, giving an opportunity for students to meet and play in a non-competitive environment.

We organised two charity matches, raising over £100 for the York Opportunities Scholarship helping support those with financial difficulties attend university.

What We Plan to Do This Year

This year we plan to build on the excellent work that has been achieved, by continuing to increase the attendance at weekly training. We also plan to arrange more fixtures against societies on campus and to expand our network to external societies at other universities. In addition to this, we intend to host more charity matches to contribute to good causes.

We also think it is important to use the opportunity sports offers us to network with law firms, barristers’ chambers, and other law societies in the area. This year we are planning to increase the number of socials, in order to offer members a great time on and off the pitch.
